Mother’s Day Tea Party

Mother’s Day Tea Party 2019

It was a Mother’s Day Tea Party to end all tea parties!! We had 20 guests from the homeless community (mentees) and 20 women from the community at large (mentors).  They all met at the First Baptist Church of Pompano at 8 am on Saturday, May 10th.  Everyone received a Showering Love t-shirt and the mentees also received capris and sandals.  And the mentors were already in their capris and t-shirts.  When all were dressed, you couldn’t tell one group from the other!  All were on equal footing.  And then the fun began!  There was breakfast for all, a prayer and meditation room, then on to the boutique where the mentees chose business appropriate attire.  Then hair, make-up and nails!  Finally on to the resume room where each participant received her resume on a thumb drive.

Beauty Everywhere!

Once all were beautified, next stop was the Mother’s Day Tea Party room.  It was amazing!  The tables were set with the most beautiful vintage china – delicate teacups and saucers, roses in pitchers, candles lit.  Every chair had long white gloves, a lovely fan, pearls – each lady felt like a princess!

The table was set so beautifully!

Big Reveal!

Carla had designed activities to bring people together – participants shared stories and discovered that mentees and mentors had more in common than they knew! They all enjoyed the lovely teas, scones, hors d’oeuvres, and finger sandwiches.  It was extraordinary!  And then, after all that, there was more!!  Everyone trooped out of the tea room, changed into the clothing they had chosen and it was time for the big reveal!  Various members of the community had donated jewelry for the event – bracelets and earrings, with a butterfly motif. And then, it was time for the big reveal!!   Since volunteers had covered all the mirrors up until then, no one knew how they looked!  Jen opened the door to the tea party room again and all  the participants were finally able to see themselves as others saw them.

Gena is amazed at how she looks!

All the guests were so thrilled!  The makeovers made everyone feel so beautiful!  And finally, they finished their Mother’s Day Transformational Tea Party!!  All the ladies sat down to more gifts, more food, more tea, and wings! Volunteers had placed a pair of butterfly wings on each chair. Each participant had achieved her wings!  We can’t wait to see them fly!

Showering Love helps people find their own path to self-sufficiency through events like these.  We give heartfelt thanks to all who donated goods, services and money to make it all happen.  We can’t do this work without YOU, the commUNITY!
