With Father’s Day fast approaching, Showering Love is aware of how difficult this time can be for fathers that are experiencing homelessness or for men that are homeless and simply missing their father on this very special day.
Father’s Day can bring about sadness and loneliness when you are living on the street. Whether the cause is shame, guilt or having drifted apart, no father should have to experience these feelings alone.
Showering Love will host a Father’s Day Fun Day to honor these men. Our goal is to remind them that they matter, regardless of where they may be in their lives.
Our special day will be filled with fun, team building, mentoring and a special BBQ steak lunch. FogDog will be playing live music and guests will hear from speaker Derek Auguste. The day will be filled with the message of hope to all of our guests.
Volunteers and men from the community will offer support and encouragement to our guests. All men will also have the opportunity to participate alongside each other in our Hoops for Hope basketball game.
Vice President of Showering Love, Joe Trembly, who also experienced homelessness in his life shares on how this day affected him – “While being homeless and living on the street, Father’s Day was one of those days that I didn’t have the strength to face.” “I was filled with so much shame that I wouldn’t even reach out to my father to wish him a good day.” “I felt so disconnected from my family”, Joe added.
Each of our guests will receive a hot shower, new underclothes, t-shirts and shorts, a backpack filled with essential items, and a new pair of sneakers. Why backpacks and sneakers, you ask? Because the backpack represents us “having their back” and the sneakers is to help them “get back on their feet.”
The Father’s Day Fun Day will be held at Temple Beth Emet located at 4807 S. Flamingo Road in Cooper City, FL 33330 on Saturday, June 16th from 11AM to 4PM.
We invite the community to support us in our Father’s Day event by sponsoring a Dad for only $20.00, which will cover the cost of a new pair of sneakers. If you want to help a Dad get back on his feet, then click the donate button to support this worthwhile cause.
