I chose volunteering with Showering Love because I wanted to help the homeless. While I was volunteering with Showering Love on the 5th of February of 2022. I experienced something that I had never seen before: Volunteering with Showering Love to help the homeless was an amazing eye opening experience It was a marvelous experience, for which I will certainly be volunteering with Showering Love again.
On the first Saturday of every month, People from the community come together by Volunteering with Showering Love to help in many different areas of the local non-profit. They incorporated in 2016. Showering Love converts buses into mobile sanitation shower units so the homeless can receive weekly showers. Guests as Showering refers to people experiencing homelessness also provides NEW clothing for each guest every time the guest showers.
Volunteering with Showering Love
It’s an opportunity to be hands on and to learn the facts surrounding homelessness. Jeanne Albaugh, Ceo of Showering Love shares about her 10 year experience with being homeless and how she went from “Homeless to CEO”. This helps the volunteers to better understand homelessness. It also gives volunteers the opportunity to help in the warehouse or help clean the mobile sanitation buses.
For four hours on a Saturday. The commUNITY comes together and gives back to help homeless veterans, women and children who are living on the streets. This is heartbreaking to me. The volunteers help Showering Love with crucial tasks, such as making hygiene bags on-site, folding underwear, helping with the latest fundraising project, and more!
That Saturday, my task was to aid Showering Love by making Valentine’s Day lollipop bouquets. It perfectly honed my creative nature in addition to providing me with opportunities to talk to my fellow volunteers. Overall, it was an experience that I highly recommend!
It is an incredible atmosphere. The place seemed alive with friendly chatter. All the assignments were very engaging, and everyone who volunteered that day was exceedingly amiable. What a wonderful place Showering love is to help others and have fun while doing it.
