A National Call to Action: Walk For Lives 2025

How can students, nonprofits, and advocates come together to make a real difference in public health?

At Showering Love, we’ve seen firsthand how powerful partnerships can transform lives. One of our strongest collaborations has been with Nova Southeastern University (NSU) and its dedicated public health students. Through their Community-Based Health Project capstone course, these students have worked alongside us to tackle issues affecting South Florida’s most vulnerable populations.

NSU students have played a vital role in our mission—helping us organize outreach events, participating in our Community Empowerment Housing Program’s ribbon-cutting ceremony, and engaging in harm reduction initiatives. Their commitment to public health education, homelessness support, and overdose prevention has strengthened our services and expanded our reach.

One of the most significant ways NSU students have made an impact is through their collaboration with The Robin Foundation, a powerhouse in the fight against the opioid crisis. Now, The Robin Foundation is taking its mission nationwide, and we at Showering Love stand in full support.

A National Call to Action: Walk For Lives 2025

The Robin Foundation and South Florida Wellness Network have been designated as National Ambassadors in South Florida for the fight against fentanyl. This growing crisis continues to claim lives, and their dedication to awareness, prevention, and advocacy is more important than ever.

“The Robin Foundation is dedicated to changing and saving lives at risk of overdose by supplying Narcan and delivering comprehensive training to individuals, families, and organizations on its proper administration. Their mission is to empower communities with the tools and knowledge needed to prevent and respond to overdoses effectively, ultimately working towards reducing the impact of substance abuse and saving lives.” - The Robin Foundation Mission Statement

On September 20, 2025, these organizations are calling on community leaders, advocates, and families to join them in a grassroots movement—Walk For Lives. This nationwide event will bring together survivors, families, and advocates who have been personally affected by fentanyl. The goal? To raise awareness, amplify voices, and push for stronger policies and prevention efforts.

Paul Martin, Founder of United Against Fentanyl, is leading this movement with a powerful message:

"By uniting our efforts and raising our collective voices, I firmly believe that we can garner the attention of lawmakers and catalyze meaningful change in fentanyl-related policies and interventions. Despite recent decreases in overdose fatalities, we cannot afford to be complacent."

The fentanyl crisis has touched too many lives, and events like Walk For Lives are a powerful way for communities to stand together, demand action, and ensure more resources are dedicated to saving lives.

The Overlap Between the Fentanyl Crisis and Homelessness

At Showering Love, we see firsthand how substance use disorders and homelessness are deeply connected. Many individuals experiencing homelessness face barriers to healthcare, mental health services, and addiction recovery resources. Harm reduction efforts, like those led by The Robin Foundation, are critical to keeping people safe.

That’s why we fully support The Robin Foundation’s mission—because Narcan distribution, overdose prevention training, and advocacy are not just about addiction; they’re about saving lives. Through our partnership with NSU and public health students, we’ve worked alongside The Robin Foundation in various community efforts, including Narcan education, outreach events, and harm reduction initiatives.

By working together, we can break the cycle of homelessness, substance use, and stigma, and ensure that more people receive the support they need.
